Did you read that thread? I can't see how any sane person would seek to breathe wrong on that engine until this considerable problem is figured out. Maybe you are right - the SC would void the warrantee anyway, so it's not like that is the issue, but hell since there is a good chance you would be buying a new engine on TOP of the SC anyway, why not spring for the M5 motor? No issues with that one so far. |

| There's not much you can do with that engine. Its already putting out power in the 100HP/L range! With the high compression of that engine, I don't think I would want to run any boost. Ignition timing would have to be pulled way back. It would have to run rich (more than other force fed engines).

| Well, right now with all this talk about rod bearings letting go i'd be more worried about that! Yikes! Anyway, the M3 CSL had 350hp via a different exhaust, and an elaborate HUGE carbon fiber open airbox. Nowack Tuning in Germany has a 400hp tuned E46 M3 via cams, headwork, intake, full exhaust with headers. This stuff carries a heavy pricetag. |

| basically the only legitimate "engine mod" for the e46 m3 right now is to take out the engine.. and put in a v8 then all you have to do is just wait till dinan comes out with a dual-sc for that puppy

| E46 M3 Have you noticed a trend on the E46 M3 engine failures? The majority of them are caused because of stupidity. Reving your car to 8000+ when its this new is nothing short of mindless. All of the E46 M3s that my friends have and mine as well have had no problems. We are all responsible drivers (e.g. no over reving etc). This is only the second year for the E46 M3 and the first for the SMG II and people are already saying its a lemon? Not if the owner has a few brain cells. At least wait until the first 15K service before you drive that hard. Brian Last edited by dallasbboy : 04-29-2002 at 01:28 PM. |

Yes - BMW refusing to honor the warrantee, an over-rev reading of 8650 on too many cars to be coincidence, rods blowing all over town, and people complaining of a lack of replacement engines. Not to mention the transmission problems. Over rev codes stored showing up to 18 MINUTES in the damage zone? Oh yes - definitely a trend, and it doesn't point to driver error. Quote:
Explain to me how the hell it is possible to over-rev a SMGII M3. At least, how it shouldn't be possible and yet it is happening. And the guy whose rev limiter doesn't work - the car consistently slams right right past 8200 RPM if he lets it, and the dealer says it's normal? Hogwash. Quote:
I wish you luck with yours, may you never see any of these reported problems. |

| you can over rev when your in the smg mode 2 or higher i belive. and the 8260 or whatever rpm it is listing well thats the highest it can regiester and that means an over rev also people have said they were at 8000+ for a few secounds or more now tell me why u would do that ![]()
