2002 e46 M3 vs. stock S4?

Friday night, one of my buddies (///Quick2Eat1 on DTM) were racing a stock Audi S4 (2001, I think) in his stock 2002 M3. The first race, he put it in automatic mode, sport mode on, traction controll off. he lost by a car legnth or two. 2nd race, he used launch control, and won by a car legnth or two. wtf? i thought he would have kicked the s4's ass both times? i had no idea those things were that fast... anyone else ever raced one? how'd it turn out?

They aren't "slow" but they aren't in the same realm as the E46 M3, and yes.. I believe that stock for stock an E36 M3 could definitely give an S4 a run for it's money..

I was under the impression the S4 ran 13s stock. Should be E46 M3 range, but then again, a $600 chip and the game is up

S4 musta been chipped, with a chip they're in the mid 13s which is E46 M3 territory...

THERE IS no way a stock s4 with 250 hp can even hang with a e46 m3. My car stock was considered equal to an s4 by most car magazines in straight line acceleration.

GreekS/4Tourer do you know anything about chipped S4 vs C32?

As far as i know chipped s4 is about 306? hp and c32 is 349 stock.

Nice M3 mirrors on that S4. Everyone is a wannabe M3!

No doubt they are nice street machines, but the blow chunks on the track.

And no way in hell is a stock S4 keeping up with a correctly driven E46 M3. Not counting the soccer mom automatic mode.

I ran into a couple Boston local S4s in my old supercharged/intercooled M3 awhile back. I spanked 2-3 different chipped S4s in a row. Of course I was probably making close to 80-100 more HP then they were. So not really fair.

Audi needs to learn how to chip tune their cars better, seems like a waste of power to me. I'm sure they'd get more reviews and attention if they had tuned the engine that well from the factory. Doesn't surprise me that it's hard for people to squeeze much out of BMWs, especially the M cars. Granted I know the chips take advantage of stuff like high octane gas and stuff, but with limited mechanical modifications I'm sure Audi could ship the S4 with 300hp.

It would be a piece of cake for them. Some minor upgrades would also prevent all those turbos from melting down when people chip there cars.

But to keep cost down and also because of liability, they only made the car with 250HP and with parts that can't handle much more then then stock boost without issues.

Comparing the E46 M3 to S4 stock, the M3 will be a little faster

Just upgrade the S4 turbos to K04 (RS4 turbos)
