Which Benz's compete with or can beat E36 and E46 M3's??

C32 for sure would spank any E36. Probably very equal to if not faster than the E46 I think

A C32, SLK32, and CLK55 would beat an E36, and most of the time, an E46 M3. As far as handling is concerned, either M3 would destroy the 3 AMG cars I mentioned on a track. My CLK easily beats both M3's in a straight line, but on the track I too fall short to the superior handling of the M3 (but we're working on that).

the C36 would keep up with an E36, a C43 would probably beat it. (straight line, at least)

I think the C43 AMG competed with the e-36 m3 and the C32 AMG competes with E-46 m3. The older C43 AMG had a v8 engine and had close to 300 hp but it handled like crap. E-46 m3 and C32 amg have about the same 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Every mag I've seen says the E-46 m3 is faster. C-32 AMG has more hp because and its blown. I think all Mercedes come with autos.

Yes...high performance division of Merc AMG, started off seperate though and became co op with Merc in 1993:

I drove a Mercedes 190E Cosworth which was manual...and the SLK used to be only available in Auto, but manual has been available since 1999...I assume all are available as manual if you want it!

So they started having manuals in 1999. Thats news to me. I have never seen a manual Mercedes.

No the SLK wasnt manual before then, not the whole range... that 190E I drove was a 1988.

Check Mercedes as every model I looked at has the option...its just Merc owners tend to be older (dont flame its true!!) and so buy more autos...also a car like, say, the S Class is more suited to auto. Ive seen loads of manual Mercs.

I've never seen a manual mercedes in the US. When I went to germany a few times as a student, I never saw an auto there!!!

so they offer 5 speeds as an option now in the US? Cool.

no mercedes offers manuals in the US they are just a pain in the ass to find. my dads last car was a 260E (big car little engine)and it had a manual. he looked high and low to find that car. i remember him telling me something about there only being 7 or 8 on the eastcoast. but like stated earlier cars like the SLK were not available with a manual till 99 i beleive. my mom has a 98 and to avoid the waiting list my dad had one brought over. at the time he knew the president of mercedes benz NA but i beleive he has since retired so that helped. i know it sounds stupid to say cause its a girls car and auto but its still a really fun car to drive i dont care what anyone says.
