Winter Tire Size

Has anyone run 225 50 R17 tires on the M3 in the winter?

I've got a set of 225 45 R17's here ready to use, but they're getting a little slim on the tread. The size of these is a bit smaller than the OEM size, but this is what BMW recommends. I assume this is for chain and/or wheel well build up, but the difference in size is annoying.

Can the 50 series tire be run without rubbing/build up issues when the wheel wells are coated with winter buildup of snow, ice, etc?

I am currently running the 225/45/R17 setup. I would think that the 50 series should fit but it probably would depend on the offset of the wheels.

I'm happy to report that the 225 50 R17's fit just fine. No problems what so ever, even with packed ice, snow, etc. in the wheel wells.
