| Need help with purchase of an E46 M3. I'm interested in a 2003 M3 with 68K miles on it. What are some of the issues I should look into? Probably a pre-purchase inspection and compression test, anything else? What are the most common problems with cars in this range?? Sorry I can't do a search at this time. Somehow the workplace computer won't allow it. Thanks in advance.      |

| First off what is the asking price of the car? Make sure all proper service have been done on the car since it is outside of warranty. Check CARFAX if you haven't, not like its all that accurate but it's worth it. Honestly, I would just take it to your local BMW dealer and have them pull the service record. It well tell you everything that happened to it while under warranty and beyond if the previous owner had it serviced at BMW after warranty. Also see if the previous owner has any service records for out of warranty work.

| Being only 4 years old, I would hope there wouldnt be too many issues. I am not sure, and dont know too much, but I would imagine it wouldnt be something too big.

| Oh with the E46 M3 you can get cars on both ends of the spectrum. For instance my car broke down on me with only 10,000 miles. While others have gone strong for 100k with no problems. Not to scare the OP away from a E46 they are great cars I am just saying there are total lemon ones out there that you want to avoid.

| I had one of my window regulators fail which means the window wont roll down. Pretty common problem on the E46. I also had a bad TPS (throttle Position Sensor) that is what caused the car to break down on me. My EDK failed, I have no clue what that means. It was fixed in conjunction with my TPS. My radio gave out on me, another pretty common problem with the car from what i understand. All of this within the first 15,000 miles of ownership. Otherwise though this car rocks and I am still very happy with my decision moving from my E36 M3 to the E46.
