Noise coming from diff when cornering slowly

Hi,

Has anyone else heard these mechanical noises coming from their M Diff?

My 03 M3 is under warranty and it is going in for a service tomorrow at Motorline in Brisbane, so hopefully they can find the issue and fix it for free.

An M Diff would be expensive to replace...

You have got the common 'diff' chatter problem. All BMW do is add a diff aditive which makes it go away. Free of charge

They put some new thicker oil in and it has fixed the noise... Any BMW dealer will know what to put in the diff..

But WHY is the noise there? Seems to me like a quick band aid fix...

ok from what ive read bmw used the wrong diff fluid at one point and have since recommended switching to the fluid I listed above. If your diff is damaged internally then no a fluid change wont help. But Ive heard of several people with the same noise problem that switched fluid and after a few hundred miles or so the noise was either greatly reduced or gone completely. I mean id rather try the fluid change and see what happens before I go replacing a diff. Who knows you my already have the correct fluid in your diff but IMO you have nothing to lose. Hope that helps.

I had the exact same problem.. and had to get my diff replaced at 38k
