M3 vs Evo-Witnesses????

There has been alot of discussion about the M3 being slower than the evo's. Has anyone raced or witnessed a Evo vs E46/M3 (stock on stock)?

I have not raced an evo but wanted to know if I should be aware that I might not be happy with the results if I do run across an evo.

i would like to hear also...

WRX's and WRX STI's are always the ones you get comparisons to the M3 and the STI will hold the M3 upon launch but the M3 will pull off and and leave it

My friend that has a Srt-4 neon that's stock beat a Evo from a roll. And my other friend with a E36 M3 with AA Exhuast, AA Intake with 540HFM, and AA chip and bigger injectors was pretty even with the srt-4. So I would say you can take it or the guy in the evo can't drive. After the srt-4 beat him they pulled over and the guy with the evo asked what do you have done to he he said stock Srt-4 he would not belive it haha.

Thanks for the input! I've pull away from a neon srt-4 before but it wasn't straight up race I started 1/2 car length ahead of him and kept pulling I could hear his turbo kicking in,but he wasn't making up any ground.

keep in mind evo's weren't meant for draggracing. faster is relative term. on a track the m would dominate on a road course the evo would. stock for stock is a drivers race. keep in mind the evo and sti only make maybe 220 to the wheels. I don't knwo what an m does. the evo makes it's power sooner and has more torque. the M is rwd vs the evo's awd. evo = better launches and quicker accerlaration. M = better top end performance. the evo is a self proclaimed race car from the factory. The M althtough fast is hardly a race car but a fast luxury car. so are you dragracing an evo? Is it from a stop or a roll. you have the advantage from a roll like 30+mph. from a dig he'll take you if he is a good driver. Most awd drivers don't know how to take adavantage of their drive system. Just slash his tires and you'll win

This is a hypothetical question I had asked even though I do have a friend with an evo (his is not stock).Haven't raced him though.
You are correct evo's are stock rally racecars. I would take my chances with an evo over a ferrari/lambo in a dirt race bet any day. So, this is kind of an oranges against apples comparison.
I just wanted to know if I should be ready for a fight if I run into an evo.
I differ with your comment about bmw M's are hardly a racecar.
BMW M's are built for racing there is only a hand full of 6-cyl cars that put out over 333HP in a naturally aspirated engine.
If you look at the comparison charts, they compare M3's, Corvette’s, Porsches. Which these cars have luxury features but are not luxury cars. They are considered sport's coupes.
I also think maybe the advantage an evo might have is-awd & weight 300 pound or so less than an M.
However, if you know how to shift and the conditions aren't (snow, rain, dirt or mud). I think an M shouldn't have a problem winning.

bring your m3 to its roots, put recaro race seats in better suspension, H&R coilovers maybe? and tune it by www.kinetechnik.com they have many 420+hp m3's and you will stop him no matter where u run into him streat or track.or tune it like carmens that dude car is sick as fuck.

I think it needs to be pointed out that awd can be a bitch to launch. Yes, with a good driver an awd car will out launch a rwd car, but I'd say normally they will be even or the rwd will take the launch. I believe the M would pull on a stock evo, but not much.

M3 > Evo try it man and let us know I firmly beleive the M will take the Evo just like it takes the STI.

I'm not sure what Carmen is putting down, I don't know him personally, but went to a local meet in Mass. during the summer. Here's a link about his car. http://www.discovery-automotive.com/...Content&id=101

I have raced an evo.

My friend has an evo with a few upgrades, a intake, exaust, nothing really major. My car however has light weight seats, Jim Conforti intake, exaust, UUC stage II clutch with the light weight flywheel, B&M short shift, strut braces, carbon fiber hood, and cross drilled rotors. I think I have droped close to 200 pounds out of the car and it pulls so freeking hard.

Yeah I took him, it was a very close race at first he started to pull on me but after 2nd it was all over.. I don't think my tires stick very well in first, or for that matter between 1 to 2 and 2 to 3rd... ;-) If I had different tires and maybe a chip it wouldn't even be close.

So thats my next upgrades, chip and underdrive pullies... :-D
