first off how old is this kid? if hes a first time driver, then forget the M3, he will wrap it around a pole in no time. Whats wrong with a 330i? Its plenty quick and doesnt have main bearing failures like the M3 does.

If this is going to be his first car, I dont think he should get a M3, a 330 has plenty of power for a first car and will still get you in lots of trouble. I have a 330ci and I have driven a M3, they feel like complety differnt cars. The M3 has so much more midrange power, handles complety diffent and just feels more like a sports car. But that power in a inexperienced driver the M3 will end up off in a ditch or around a telephone pole. Just my 0.02.

Well i never siad it was his first car, its accually going to be his fouth, he can drive well and doesnt fuck around. He wants a m3 because he already owned a 330. So what i was asking was besides the fact that it is quicker, what makes it better ? Why should he go for that. You said it had a wheel bearing problem.

i said MAIN bearings not wheel bearings. I feel the E46 M3 wont have much value once the warranty runs out because of this. Anywho, why doesnt he just go test drive one? And if this is his 4th car, why does he need to ask his mom for permission?

if you dont know anything about engines, then i will lose you. its basically the bearing that goes between the conrod and the crankshaft. ever since the M3 came out, this has been the cause of its catastrophic engine failues. My advice is to get a 2001 mode as these did not suffer from it. Also, you wont have to worry about depreciation. I wish my mommy could buy me an M3.

If your mommy has to buy you an M3, you don't deserve one. Anyways how old is your friend, seems like he's 17 or around there. Even a 330 is a lot for a teenager.

Thanks a lot Mark. I have an idea of what your talking about. Why do the newer ones suffer from this, is bmw slacking?

Well, if he wants one, here is what he should say (although i don't recommend it as a first time vehicle)
He can say that the braking is much better than most vehicles out there (look at R&T tests). The accident avoidance is also much better than in the 330Ci due to the stiffer suspension. things along those lines...

I am glad there is at least one person in here (fabadabean) who made a reasonable post.

The poor kid simply asked for a few reasons why the M3 would be a better car than the 300 and all you assholes did is bitch about how this kid shouldn't have an M3 as his first car just like you do everytime someone who isn't 65 wants an M3.

yes, but the idea isnt to use the brakes so hard on the street that they glow red hot when you park it also M3some, the M3 wouldnt be a good first car. Its one hell of a car, very forgiving but still a lot to handle. Im not syaing he cant handle it, obviously I never saw this person drive but a high powered car is NOT a good car for beginners. My buddy for instance, he has a camaro but a V6 instead of a SS. Why? because he knows he would wind up wrapping it around a telephone pole. The V6 actually is a pretty quick car.
