| Question about a brand new e46 m3 i got a job as a car jockey at this bmw/mercedes dealership and today i had to take up a brand new 2004 laguna seca blue SMG m3 coupe (only had 2 miles on it when i got in), i know that you need to put 1200 miles on the motor before you put it past 4500 rpm and i wasn't driving the car hard at all, but the computer would not even let me rev the engine past 4500 rpm, anyone else experience this or know if it occurs if the car has a stick, also i've noticed that for some reason the 3-series (M or regular) absolutely stinks and billows out smoke when they are brand new, but for some reason the 5-series (which uses the same motors as some of the 3-series) does not do this, any one got any feedback. P.S. the 645ci convertible is def the hottest bmw on the market right now. |

| yep, thank god BMW did that so assclowns at the dealer dont over rev the new engine and the customer comes back to the dealer 2 months later because their engine self destructed. im kinda weary about buying an E46 M3 in the future because too many enthusiastic owners. |

| It is comforting to know that BMW has limited the full capacities of their pre-delivery vehicles. This feature may dismay many a 'one-hit wonder' dealership lackey; but, for a potential long-term owner -it spells relief. ![]()

| I'm pretty sure you can't even rev an SMG M3 over that rmp, I remember that it was like that stock and even after you buy it and all, as long as your stating it was in neutral unless your saying you drove it in gear and it wouldn't let you go that far in the rpm range.

| truth be known i don't fuck around with the cars, unlike some of the guys who work there, the reason i had to rev the engine up was because i was going on an on ramp and needed to accelerate to merge with traffic, not to fuck around with the car, infact my boss was driving behind me in the transport car, by the way i was just asking a simple question, i didn't know there were so many smart-asses on this forum who try put the other members down. |

| u guys are all missing the point, i know that ur not suppost to rev the engine up high, i was just trying to pull onto the road and merge with traffic, and since it was during rush hour i needed to accelerate quickly, and to my horror, the car was only letting me go up to 20 mph or so in first gear and i since i wasn't expecting it to do that i was alittle shocked, i had no intention of taking it very high, its just alittle scary when ur trying to merge with traffic and all of a sudden the thing just stops accelerating, obviously i caught on quickly and shifted gears and was able to get the car there saftely. |

| Should have just double-tapped to the right to get it into auto mode. No worries about shifting at the right time or getting enough revs if you do that. And like Denny said, we're just a bunch of smartasses! Please don't take anything personal. Consider it a rite of passage. ![]()

| thanx for the advice, this was the first smg i had ever driven and the car was already an hour late for delivery so no one explained to me how it worked and i decieded not to go pushing any wrongs buttons or anything. P.S. no hard feelings or anything i just wasn't expecting those responses thats all |

| If it only had 2 miles on it, it probably did not go through the PDI (pre-delivery inspection) to remove the shipping settings. Also the car will limit your rpm to protect itself till it warms up.
