I am planning on replacing my system too.. yes the HK system BLOWS!!! I was thinking MB Quartz or Boston's too... I have had Quartz before and know of the "screaming" they are famouse for... I need something with a decent amount of bass without adding an actual sub. Also, does ne1 know of an interface yet for the steering wheel controls? I heard they make them for Alpine HU's, but cant find any...

hey morrow95 most of the Alpine systems are compatibile with the steering wheel mounted controls on the E46, they said something about their wiring or so. pleaSe RaTe Me En iLL do Da SaMe..... ![]()

MB Quarts are ok but there are much better speakers out there. MB Quart midrange/midbass section has always been strong; however, the tweeters is a weak link. They are loud but not natural sounding. If you need something good, check out ADS, Focal or Rainbows (if you can find them). If you really need MBQ's try out the new QSD. They are really surprisingly good. F1 Status...hehe...if you have some spare thousands of dollars to dish out, why not. Awesome system.

I like to listen to music through Boston Acoustics. If I could piece together a system for a new M3 it would include: Boston Acoustics Pro 6.5-3 system for the front stage: 6.5" woofer, 4" mid-range, 1" tweeter, includes crossover Boston Acoustics I'm not sure what size speaker fits the rear, but I would use a Boston Acoustics Pro System (6.5, 5.5, or 4.5) which includes a woofer and a tweeter And I would use a single Boston Acoustics Pro 12.5LF subwoofer mounted in a bandpass enclosure ported through the rear deck (or ski bag pass-through if you have one) to provide the bass. ![]() To power all of this a single amp could be used. My choice would be an Alpine MRV-F357 5-channel (90Wx4 + 300Wx1) And then, of course, the head unit, which doesn't matter very much as far as sound quality is concerned, as long as you get one that is at least $450 you should be just fine. Make sure it has three sets of outputs (front, rear, and sub) and that it can handle the accessories you want (CD Changer, DVD, TV tuner, etc.) I prefer the Alpine IVA-C800 because it can handle almost every accessory you can think of and it is easy to navigate through the menus. The Kenwood unit is nice because it has a built-in DVD player, but I question the durability of the touch screen monitor. Alpine IVA-C800 $2000 US Alpine Electronics Kenwood KVT-910DVD $2800 US Kenwood Car Audio ![]() The best way to go is to ask people where they took their cars to get their systems installed, and find a reputable dealer to help you decide what best suits your listening tastes.
