Stop hatin, just because you didnt get a BMW when you were 16 doesnt mean you should tell us not to get one, Im 16 and have a bday commin up in april and just went to go look at the new M3. I was in your same situation last year. Go with a CPO(ceritified pre-owned), cause the stats are high that you will get into an accedent, i havent yet, but whose to say i wont. if you get the preowned then you will still be sportin like a 2 or 3 year old Bimmer but with the new body style, then trade it in, you never know you might go for something better such as the M3 for me. AND WATCH OUT FOR THE HATERS THEY THRIPLE WHEN THEY SEE A TEENAGER DRIVEN A BMW

hey patty, for your info im not "hating". in fact i do have a bmw, one that I paid for with my own money. I didnt have my mommy and daddy buy me one. I'm telling him not to get one because it's a target for people. As of now someone has walked on my hood and hit my front bumper at the mall and ran. I might have just had bad luck with mine but to start out with dont spend close to 40 beans on a new car.

thats what he means by hating .. since you bought your car with hard earned cash youre going to preach at all the kids who have rich parents. But you're right, even if my parents were really wealthy, i cant see myself asking them for a $40k car at 16. If i was an extremely rich kid, id drive an e36 m3. That would be the high life at 16 lol ..

that would be the high life at 20 oh well my 325 is nice too.

heres my advice, dont get a car that you would get too attached to. You'll either crash it or get it taken away like me . I just wanna die. Oh and i got my car at 16 too

oh yeah andask your parens for some extra moey since they just hrow 40k out the window tell them u want to go to racing school, you can try bmws own school which has one for beginner drivers or skipp barber has a good program. do alot of research go to the school first then decide what you can handle.personally if your anythink like my self and i was your parent i would buy you a ford model-t so you can't go that fast. you parents must trust you a whole bunch cuz i really can't tink of a slow 40k car, for them to even think of get a 16yr a porche is like so stupid i wanna know what brain washing drug u gave them, i need some. get a crappy car the the rest of the 40k and invest it or put it in cd some shit just not into a car that im gonna see at a junk yard with your blood in it. i don't see anything wrong with his parent buyng his first car i just hink it should be a porche of an year or any bmw from 95 wit ha 6cyl eng.

40k dont hate him theres not a single person on here who would not cream them selves to have had 40k for their first car. If he cares about the car and is a good driver he shouldnt wreck it but hes gotta learn mabey the hard way but heck man more power to you but if i were you i would get an e36 or an e30 m3 and drop the remainder of the cash in the car. Then you would have one hella nice bimmer. But i would in reallity also keep my car now and hook it up and get an m3 (e36) and hook it up but thats me and the kid who said he got a new z3 for his first car your int he same boat as hims so i wouldnt be talking you know what my first car was, it was a 91 civic lx and i sure as hell learned how to appreciate even having a car and then you know what my parents were impressed with my responsiblity and care with my car and my driving so they went out and got me a 2000 civic to some of you thats chump change but i like it and it was definitly a step up and soemthing i could mod and make into a sweet car and please for sake of all thats holy dont start with the honda flames i am not in the mood to listen to them or to reply because i ahte ricers just as much as the other person and no i dont not have altezzas on my car and if i ever do some one shoot me. pss Sorry bout grammar erros and spelling i am a bad typer when i type fast and guess what i always type fast

I vote that you get the 40k car, that way when you wreck it, and you will, it will be a more substantial lesson, so I take my earlier statment back, get the bimmer, I don't want to se another wrecked 911.

You're right - im sure nearly all of us would have cremed ourselfs had we had(or been given) 40beans to buy our first car. We would have loved it.

But those of us who are now older look back and can see how dumb it would have been.

If I had 40grand and could go back to being 16 id buy sometime nicer than what i got when i was 16 ... but by no means something so powerful.

16 year olds are big headed and like to show off. ITS A FACT and it happens all the time. You see it in the ricers and you see it in your beater car kids. There might be a few exceptions to that rule.. (but usually only if the person has breats )

Statistically you will get in a wreck within the first year. Being a cocky, arrogogant 16 year old doesnt help (not a direct insult to you - just anyone whos 16!) I got in my first wreck 3 weeks after i got my license. I write that off as lack of experience becuase i bent down in stop and go traffic to get some McDonalds fries out of the bag on the floor - i should have been watching the road! We were only going about 10 mph luckily so the wreck was just a fender bender.

And even if oyu have been driving since you were 12 and have lots of experience its still not good for a 16 year old kid to have such a flashy car. It grabs attention. The attention of cops, and the attention of haters. You will hate getting pulled over all the time- you will hate the dings, dents, and scratches you get from haters.

Wait 2 years... wait til you are in college, or at least out of HS and your parents home.. then get the flashy car. Less haters then - you are more matrue (even if you find yourself to be mature now - i know i did at 16 - you will become even more mature with a few years behind ya)

Get something nice now. A 240sx is not a bad car. Hell, go get a 300ZX. Or a 95 M3. Those are VERY nice cars, and a lot cheaper. So if you do wreck it - or it gets hated on.. it wont be AS bad.

However -- if this 40grand is a 1 time deal then i guess you should buy what you can get. If your rents are rich (read dumb) enough to get you a 40 grand car - and only offer that $$ once.. then dont be stupid and get a cheapo. but im willing to bet, if they have that much money.. they will buy you somethign cheaper - and then when you want.. something better later.

god damnit i wish i had parents that rich - i wouldnt have to work so damn hard! bleh.

good luck you lucky bastard
