| E46M3 Dyno Chart? Recently got a 2001 Laguna Seca Blau M3, and found that the owner's manual does not give a dyno chart. What kind of M3 buyers do they think we are, anyway? Sure it announces where peak hp and peak torque can be found, but that's not nearly enough details. Anyone have a dyno chart from a stock E46 M3 they would be willing to post, or to send me privately? Thanks in advance. |

| While it used to be that underating cars was good for insurance, now the insurance companies have a vehicle rating based on type (sports car) and at what class the car is in. I don't see anything wrong with the math of 278 rear wheel being 333 flywheel. Generally people accept .17 as the "loss" from driveline etc. (333HP - (333hp X 1.17)) or if you want to use a straight calculator -333 X .17 + 333. There are other ways to do it and my favorite is 333 / 1.20 = 277.5. Seems to work for me. Anyway you can also take the Rear Wheel HP and multiply it by .20 and you get pretty close to Flywheel. 278HP X 1.20 = 333.6 note this is a generalization based on dynojet dyno's. AA I believe uses mustang dyno's which always give lower numbers, so 333+ would be more realistic. Also note the stock M3 was 271.6 at their site not 278. 278 I believe was with NO exhaust.

| You are correct with the .20-.21 correction for dynojet but AA uses a Mustang Dyno which is .30 correction factor. That would put the 278rwhp M3 at 364hp crank (Some 30+ hp more than claimed factory specs).

| I was under the impression that a mustang dyno should be equated at 1.26. and given the 271 hp stated on the AA site. Thats about 341hp flywheel which seems pretty close to the 333 stated. It's nice to see it is higher than stated even with any calculation you do. Also as with the e36 there is a range of HP with the lowest of 333 as acceptable. E36's ranged from 240-247 allegedly. The real question is when will there be a forced induction system for it!

| The .30 correction I have been told by the fellow who use those Mustang Dyno's (It's seems high to me but what do I know )As far as forced induction into that thing unless someone is willing to tear down the engine and rebuild with low compression forged components you CAN FORGET IT!!! Those engines are true Motorsport "High Strung" engines. BMW pushed the envelope to the edge with that motor and it is not suited for boost. As far as the folks at AA all the keep saying is "Blown Engine"!! I'm sure it will happen sooner or later but it is going to take a bit more doing.

| Thanks for the link. I'd love to see how long that motor lasts (Especially seeing that those motors have been blowing without any forced induction)! Do you know if they are doing any internal motor modifications before installing the supercharger kits?
