Anybody ever install a remote starter in a BMW 5speed? can it be done? have you ever seen it done?

Isn't there a way to make sure it doesn't start if it's in gear? you can't have it monitor the gear position?

I live up north and I could really use this in the winter..

I have a remote start setup in my M3 (5speed). I have the clifford avant guard 4 with the works. It ran me about $1,300 for the whole thing. I dont reccomend the "night sensing headlights switch". I don't really like it. When I wanna play my radio in the dark with the car turned on. I don't like my HID lighting everything up.

Yes you can use magnetic switches positioned around the shifter but the only problem is that in my opinion this is not completely 100 percent effective. CompuStar makes an alarm that allows you to use remote sart on a stick. What it does is that when you exit the car the car continues to run even after you remove the key from the ignition, then once the door is closed the car shuts off. This allows the car to know that it was left in neutral. The only problem is if someone is sitting in the car and accidentally puts the car in gear, then your screwed.

Maybe use the emergency brake lead as a safety?

I have never understood why they do this(mechanics/valet...) I never park my car like that leaving it in gear if you manitain the car properly ie brakes slipping and sliding shouldn't be an issue. because I never do it, I have had a close call with the car jumping while I'm trying to start it from getting it back, but luckily it never moves more than an inch or two before stalling. This one guye told me he had AS on his BMW 5spd 5 series and the car kept on going after being remote started in gear I don't know if that is possible anybody can add tp this....?I personally think he was BS ing to sound "knowledgeable".

Ayton, I don't think it's 100% BS. A friend of mine years ago worked in an alarm shop. He used to talk about this 5-speed Mustang 5.0 that some other guy who worked there owned. Well, despite everyone telling him not to, the kid installed a remote start on it. Within a week, someone remote started it right through the back wall of the shop. I actually met the kid once. We all had a good laugh about it.

heres the problem, what happened in my case, the car did have the e-brake on and the car would jump forward and stall, then it would do it again and continue until its started successfully. So basically the car would start - stall, start - stall, until it hit the escalade. every time it did this it would jump foward about 8 inches to a foot.

To answer you question YES! there is no exclusive technology that exists only in a CI that would make the device inoperable....actually the basic kit is generic and just has different ways to hook it up to most cars using individual wiring color codes.I have one sitting here that is for sale if anybody wants one.The same kit can go from an audi to volkswagen...that means everything in between.
