yes it can be done just like an automatic, just dont start it up if you leave it in gear.

in order to get a remote starter to start the car, the ecu has to think that there is a key already in the ignition. basically u prewire a key into the ignition, so that when activitated, the car sees that key and "ignites." personally though, i wouldnt do it, cause ur dealer would give u one hell of a time with warrenty issues.

You will probably need to do the install yourself because I know that shops stay away from the auto starting feture in stick cars. The self starter will atempt to start your car like 5 times in a row if it wont start and if your car is in gear then it will jump forward 5 times, smashing the front. I dont think you would loose a key though, My friend has remote start on his tahoe and its just a feature on the alarm. The alarm can active the cars starter.

Dude, you can totally do it safely. My 318 was a 5 speed and I put a remote start in it. You just have to get into the habbit of parking it in nuetral w/ the parking brake on. I had a toggle switch in the glove box that allowed me to disconnect the remote start for oil changes and working on the car. If you happen to remot start the car while it's in gear the car will surge forward about a foot. No big deal!

In my opinion, instaling a remote starter on any BMW built after 95 is not a wise choice. This disables the best security feature your car has (EWS). Now, for someone to steal your car, they only have to disable the ignition lock instead of the immobilizing device built into each key. Also, if the installition is not done properly, the risk of problems down the road increases. AND this will void the warranty of any componet that the remote starter connects to. I highly advise against the mod.

well call me paranoid but if i was you i wouldnt, cause with the new car stealing shit they do these days, they could probably steal it a whole hell of alot easier, cause of the remote starter. and yah bout the warranty that would scare me away too.

beside what is mentioned (and i dont know about the e46, but from all the other BMWs ive driven) the Ebrake sucks!!! You have to pull the hell for it to grab, and I would be paranoid of the car not being in gear when parked...my car started rolling once in my driveway, and thankfully I resolved the issue before anything happened, and learned a lesson in the process.

OK, HERES THE REAL DEAL....ALARM COMPANIES MAKE 5 SPEED SAFE AUTO STARTS...THEY TRICK THE NEUTRAL SAFTEY SWITCH AND CAN DETECT THAT THE CAR IS IN NEUTRAL...YOU DEFINETELY LOOSE A KEY. THERE IS NO WAY TO START/STEAL THIS CAR WITHOUT A KEY...TAHOE'S DONT HAVE "EWS" SO THAT IS WHY HE DIDNT LOOSE A SPARE KEY....IF IF IF SOMEONE BREAKS IN TO YOUR CAR WITH YOUR SPARE KEY PREWIRED FOR YOUR ALARM....THEY TECHNICALLY COULD STEAL IT!!!!!
