slight problem

alrite people im new to bmw's but i jus bought a e46 330ci . the problem is that when i put me foot on the brake theres a knock, it dont do it everytime but its buggin me an now theres a sqeak aswell that only happens when the car hasnt moved for a few hrs but it soon goes. i dont know if any of that makes sense to u people but any advice would be much appreciated. thanks again an speak to u soon hopefully....

Do you see any scoring/lines on the rotor?

Dude, I had a problem like that, and it basically was one of the bolts that hold the Brake Caliber in place were loose. I tightened it up and it stopped. Try that and check the bolts, might be somewhere to start.

cheers bruv i done the calipers today an the knock seems to of stopped but theres still a lil sqeak but i think its the pad rubbin on the lip of the disc so i dunno if the pads r the rite 1s or what but at least the knock has stopped. thanks for the help, an hows your bimmer now paycheck , i was readin that u had overheatin problems??

Oh kool kool, well its doing much better it was actually the thermostat all along, and I have purchased it brand new on ebay, but it was faulty, so that sucked but for some reason my electric fan is not turning on, which is still a problem. So its work in progress, but the overheating has stopped but if I were sitting in traffic too long the temp would rise since the fan is not cutting on. Thanks for asking bro, if you have any questions or insight on what the problem might be for mine let me know. Oh and the "Rotor" is the big round disc that the brake pads grab on to. Thanks

hello bro, u say your fan aint kickin in when it should, i had that problem on my ford fiesta before i got the bimmer, the problem was the fan switch so maybe try that bro, i should think that bmw's av fan switches. on my other car the switch was in the side of the thermostat housing. hope that helps bro coz i know its not nice when ya car aint runnin right it jus pisses u off init. speak to u soon bro.. i got a ps3 if your on that bro my id is styley2k7.

The fan is weird because there is the actual motor of the fan( which is round and directly connected to the fan, and there is a mechanical/electronic box next to it, (rectangular has wires) well that smells burnt but the fan motor doesn't do you have any idea what it does?

i wondered what a rotor was at first aswell, American term for disc basically!! right?

I would guess so, but the technical term probably is disc lol

paycheck, jump the fan to a nearby power source if the fan comes on the fans cool open the box you might have an electrical failure that cold result in a fire. let us know what you find.
