transmission problems maybe???

I have a 325i, and i thought that the transmission was goin bad but when i put a new battery in my bimmer the transmission was acting fine...can somebody explain that to me because i dont understand it

i had a similar [problem where my 325i would make a big clunk when it went into third or fouth then it would stay in one gear...until I turned the whole car off and restarted it again.

I've not heard of this happening but it is easy to believe that it could.

Your tranny has electronic sensors and some rudimentary logic. Those circuits may be very sensitive to voltage. If your battery was failing or the terminals were corroded on the old battery, the electronics may have been seeing voltage fluctuations that affected their operation.

BTW - tranny fluid is not really permanent. Your tranny will like you better if you change the fluid and filter every 50k miles, 100k miles if you drive very gently.
