Sounds like engine mount lose? 325 Ti

Hi Guys

Just received the car last night, when I take off (only in 1st) and if theres sometimes not enough revs theres a rather noticable rattle, and when the car is idle then switched off I can hear it again. It sounds like a engine mount may be lose or transmission mount - anyone have/heard a similar thing?

The worry here is that it could be a failing dual mass flywheel. I am not at all familiar with e46 flywheels, but the parts list shows a dual mass unit.
Is the sound it makes when you turn off the engine more of a metalic churning sound?

Engine and tranny mounts, and the guibo (spelling?) rubber damper or support bearing in the driveshaft can rattle when you take off, but I would not expect them to make noise when you turn off the engine.

Running light on one cylinder at idle due to a vacuum leak or a bad injector can manifest itself as a shudder when you take off at low RPM, but that also would not likely make any noise when you shut off the car.

Have a buddy help you try to narrow down the source and look for unusual movement of parts when it makes noise.

It only occasionally makes the sound when the engine is switched off because it sounds like the torque of the engine movement stops, or when you take off you know how the engine will flex? it sounds like that...

It happens at no other time. If I give the car good revs when I take off, it never makes the sound.

Its definitiely not the running on one cylinder thing you've mentioned..theres no shudder. No pedal feel or anything like that.

Hmmm sounds like Ill get it looked at!

Spoke to the old owner of the car, apparently this issue is a known issue. Theres no fault, and no way to fix it.

Its apparently the input shaft on the gear box, the issue doesnt show its head if the car is started/stopped with the clutch in. But will arise if theres not enough revs at take off or starting off on a hill.

Anyone know about this? The old owner took the car to over 4 dealerships who all said the same thing!
