| Road Noise Problem Solved This may be the wrong forum for this but..
Bought the wife a 2004 330i, sport suspension, M-style wheels, off e-Bay.
Noticed during test drive that road noise was terrible - like a 4WD pickup with aggressive tires. Dealer said it was the tires, (OE Continentals with the rears showing tread wear indicators) and car was still under warrantee, so we bought it.
Over next 1000 miles we became increasingly alarmed that the ride was very harsh. Every crack in the highway was transmitted up the spinal column, all the way to our teeth. The car actually seemed to bounce on rough curves. It was like driving an old '71 Corvette.
SOLUTION - four new Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season tires. $900 at Costco. They look good, make no noise at all, and they ride smooth. It is a completely different car. No info yet on wet or ice traction, but Michelin put aggressive tread and three different rubber compounds across the tread to make them grip under any conditions, so I am confident. |
