How to reset memory of light switch

I want to install a different guage cluster that came with the drivtrain i swapped in, that reflects the correct mileage of the drivtrain. When i install it i get the little amber dot next to the odo. When i re-install the original cluster that came with the chassis, the light turns off. I was told this is because the light switch holds the mileage memory. How do i reset this so i can run the new cluster?

The cluster is probably matched by VIN to the DME, and it's complaining when they don't match up. Talk to a mechanic with a specialty in electronics at your favourite dealer.
