new wheels, have questions on tire choice and new springs

Hello, I have ordered a set of 18"x8.5" wheels for my car, (2001
330xi
with the sport package).

I was hoping that you guys and gals could give some advice on choice of
tires to go with them as I really don't know much of anything about
tire
types and brands. I am looking for a fairly sticky tire, but that can
still handle the occasional shower. I really don't want to spend too
much on the tires themselves was thinking if possible under 200 bucks a
tire.

I also want to get new springs for my car to lower it a bit and tighten
up the handling, but do not know how low I can go before I have
clearance issues. I do not want to have to roll the fenders so nothing
too drastic.

I was considering the H&R sport springs with a se of 235/40/18 tires of
some sort? would that be possible of will I have clearance issues and
will the front tires have enough turning clearance?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
