Soaked Muffler

Hey guys, the other day i was washing my car and i was blasting sum sand pollen, sand, dust, etc. off the back of my bumper. By mistake i sprayed sum water up the muffler tips. I hav an eisenmann and u can see into the muffler from the tips. Its pretty free flowing. Anyways i started her up and the exhaust sounded deeper. I dunno if this is bad for the muffler, but its stainless steel so i figure it wont rust. But i sprayed a little more in and it got even deeper. It sounds amazing. I luv it. Now its louder and deeper. It kind of sounds like dados m3. But, today it hit me. I think the packing in the muffler which is meant to dampen the sound got soaked in the water. Once it absorbed the water it had less ability to absorb sound. Just wonder if any of u guys hav heard of this. It goes away after about a day or so. But sounds amazing temporarily. I know this post is worded terribly, i am extremely tired...

Yes, the sound dampening material got soaked and was unable to absorb more sound. Sound dampening material will pack itself over time, which is why exhausts have to be broken in before they sound their best. I bet it sounded good. How long have you had the exhaust?

I've had the muffler since this past september. It sounds great. But it sounded absolutely amazing after the packing got soaked. I could hear crackle as i got off the gas and its much louder as well. After about a day it dries out again though.

You could try to soak it again and then redline it down the highway. My buddy did that with his CBR 900 and it blew the sound deadening material right out of the pipe

The soaking and running it hard is an old trick to get rid of the dampening materials in the silencer. It will sound much more throaty afterwards and will also cause a very soon replacement shopping for a new exhaust as you'll get a huge headache after not too much driving

it should work with any muffler as long as u get it into the actual muffler itself cuz thats where all the packing is.

yea u have to flood the muffler. You spray water in until it overflows and it flows out without the motor starting up.
