Lose power with a Remus muffler?

I was asking my local european car place for a price on a remus muffler when i was informed that it would not only void the warranty on the entire engine, but i would also stand to lose power if this was the only modification to the drive train. I was told that the remus muffler is a very good product but it doesnt work great unless some other stuff is done to the engine first? could this be right?

Hi M_CI, yah i have hered the same..i recently wanted to get remus for my E36 M3 or a Stromung.. everyone here said go for the stromung, even E36DJ was upgrading form remus to stromung. I hope u find out the real truth behind remus.

Hey Guys,

As per M_CI's comments, they really do recommend Remus exhausts. Main cause of loss of power would be less back pressure. A friend with E36 318iS placed a rather noisy Remus muffler. You can feel and hear the car if the exhaust is not right, it blurrs and grouns all over the place, kind of like a Holder Gemmi with a couple of drilled holes in the Catty...

i beg to differ,if its properly done, it is a beautiful purr on 6cyl+, actually even the e30 m3 with remus sounded beautiful

An exhaust DOES NOT void your entire engine warranty... If that was the case, practically every single member on this board would be groaning about voided warranties....the Moss vs Magnusson Act protects you the consumer from your warranty being voided w/o proof that your modification was the cause of the problem.

Nothing, I repeat nothing voids your warranty unless the installed part is the cause of it. Its the law. Also, remus is the quieter exhaust. I personally like it. But, if you want loud, then Remus is not for you.

I have a 99' 323i with a 5-speed and got an eisenmann muffler put on it. It probably one or two hundred more dollars, but u'll get about a 5% increase in hp without computer upgrades. They sound amazing too. I'll try to post a video or something or u can email me at sjpgoalie@yahoo.com if u have any questions. There pretty damn loud if u get on it from the outside of the car, but not annoying if ur just costing allong on the highway or listening to music. They sound deep and throaty but not too much. Not ricey like those fart cannons on hondas.

i never understood why people just put a muffler on a car? how much are you paying for it, 200? whats another 300-400$ to get a stomung or a AA exhaust? when it comes to something as nice as your BMW, it will be well worth it to save a little extra money and do it right....i promice, you wont regret it.

the problem may be caused from the little lid that the stock 330 exhaust has on the right hole, it works automaticly, may for setting the backpressure, when you get another exhaust you will not have this lid
