| One of the reasons BMW motors are so torquey are not just because they are I6s. Look under the car and you can see the exhaust and all the curves and silencers (i think thats what they are) and back to the muffler...its a long, twisty route, but the engineers have done that on purpose, to create just the right amount of backpressure meant for these motors to run almost perfect from the factory. Thats one of the reasons (i'm guessing) that aftermarket BMW exhausts are so much more expensive than exhausts for other cars. The aftermarket companies have to put in even more R&D so as not to ruin BMW's current backpressure levels, we dont want to suddenly lose torque by bolting on a cheap system that was quickly put together.
A mechanic I once worked with explained that to me, and every time I look under a bimmer, it makes more sense.....the most complex exhaust under a bimmer I have seen is the E39's.
I could just be crazy. Is there any merit to what I am saying? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
