Found an m3, now i need your guys help

hey guys. i found a sick ass e46 m3, carbon black on black, in my area. its a 2002, and the production date is 11/01. i know that this date had some faulty engines, and i was wondering if it was for all the engines because the seller said it wasnt for all the m3s in this date, only about 10 percent. he said he hasnt had any problems with it so far, and it has about 13k miles on it now. im wondering, do you guys think its safe, or do u think problems may arise later on. thanx alot

The funny thing is I was in the market for a 02 M3 and the only ones I found was 10/01 and 11/01 makes you think why people are selling them.

I started thinking why pay so much for a used one that might give me problems so I ordered a new one on Saturday.

Carbon black on black sounds nice! But, you're right to question the reliability. I would call the dealer with the VIN number to see if there are any open recalls for the car. This should answer your question as to whether there is a problem with a question. If you're still not satisfied... get as long of a warranty as you can!

There are no recalls on them. Yes, about 5-10% are effected. I'd buy another unless the price is that good.

So, they (BMW) knows that some are bad in that production date, but there is no recall?

That doesn't sound too good. Well, then I would go with the longest most comprehensive warranty possible if you still want to get the car. And then re-evaluate how you think the car is doing at the end of that period.

This problem is only for those two production months?
And what exactly is the problem with it? And what was BMW's solution? (Sorry for the dumbass questions... just want to know.)

well..buying any used cars, it's always a risk..no doubt about it...but to be on the safe side, buy a new one...if there are some defectiveness, they should have a recall neway...so yeah..it's all on you...your choice.

NEW, Spend the 48-58k. Because M3s are sooooo sweet. Someday I will get one if BMW doesn ruin all their cosmetics by doing wierd designs like the x coupe.
