M3 swap

i just got a 330ci its a 97 and pretty beat up and i was wondering if i can motor swap a m3 engine in their as well as the m3 6 speed transmission, would it fit? or are their to many complications...just wondering

Do you mean the e46 M3 engine because that comes with a 6 speed in the US, but that would probably be more work that it was worth. Plus you could just as easily swap a 3.2 euro in with a euro 6 speed and have basically the same thing, and i imagine it would cost quite a bit less. That would be sweet though

uhh...im not all to familiar with bmw engines or tuning..i used to drive an s2000 and was all about the hondas but i guess my want for torque grew..can u xplain wut u said up their with more detail pwease

there is no 97 330ci

if you have a 97 330ci that means you already put a 3.0 m3 engine in. If so y do you need to drop another m3 engine in?? Unless you swapped engines or the previous owner did you probably have a 328

I was about to say ive never heard of a 330ci in E36, hell they didn't even have a CI model in the E36 series.... its all 'is' .......... so did you perhaps have a 97 328is or what?

ugh im an idiot the manual that i got with the car is a manual for the 330ci but i guess i just got the wrong one.. its a 328is my bad

now..you have a 328 and looking for more power..i'd say just S/C instead of swapping for a M3 engine..

The e46 m3 engine is the engine that comes in the new style m3, its got the 3.2 Liter engine with 333 hp. It also comes with either a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed sequential transmisson. In the US we had the 3.0 Liter that came in the 95 M3 and had 240hp, in 96 the displacement got bumped up to 3.2, but hp ratings stayed the same. The european 3.0 liter engine, that came standard in europe, but we didnt get over here had 286hp, then when they bumped the displacement up to 3.2, the new hp ratings went up to 321 i believe. European M3's also came with a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed sequential tranny. I was just tryin to figure out which m3 engine u were thinking about swapping in. I personally think the euro would be a better choice because more people have done it, and e46 engines are expensive.
