| M30 MAF conversion question Ok im gonna do the M30 MAf conversion on my eta but i need to know what cars had the M30 MAF i know the *0's 5series did ut i need to know others in case i cant find a 535i. Also those ford racing injectors are they the same injectors that are on the 5.0 because id rather buy the used ones and put new tips and o rings and stuff on em then buy the new ones. Also i dotn have the money right now to buy an adjustable fuel pressure regulator so can i buy 2 different regulators out of other cars or one since i think my etas is 2.5 bar what car has a 3.0 bar or 4.0 bar the i can buy the 2 other ones if iwant to up the pressure if not ill just sucker my parents into buyin me a fuel pressure regualtor or at least pyin half. any way lookin forward to replies Thanks, Brendan ![]()

| You can use the injectors out of the same car the M30 AFM (not MAF, they are two different things) came out of. To find out what cars the parts came out of you might want to check out www.bmwinfo.com, go through specs and it will tell you which cars came with the M30 big-six engine.

| Does anyone still know if the M30 AFM will fit directly without swapping the internal components with the M20 AFM? I have a M30 AFM but i dont know if its a plug n play thing... Thanks. |

| dave92ic did it, he loves it, gave him like 8 hp or something, his write up is on his site and on e3s.net http://www.e30sport.net/m30afm.html its kind of a long write up, but if you read it and under stand it, then you will know exactly what to do. |

| mrsha007 - thanks for the link, i had already read that document in the past, thats why i asked since the topic was brought up, i just wanted to know if its really necessary to swap the internal electronics of the AFM or if i can use the M30 AFM without doing anything to it. ( i dont have an extra M20 AFM to experiment) ![]() I dont want to plug in the M30 AFm and fry the ecu or something lol. Thanks ![]() |

| i am wondering the same thing as skat 325is, can you jsut swap in an m30 afm without switching the internals? is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator necessary? does anyone have the answers to these questions? thanks! alex |

| What I would suggest is finding a M30 AFM that is from a car that has the same Motronic version as yours, and then just plug in the AFM and see how it runs. It is possible that other Motronic versions may be compatible as well. You are not going to damage anything by trying this, but the car will run like crap if it is not going to work. Check out this page for more information on what cars had what Motronic version. What is weird is that some years of e28 and e34 535i cars list the same part number for the AFM, even though they should have a different Motronic version. It makes me wonder how much the Motronic version matters when swapping the AFM. I put the larger injectors and adjustable FPR in my car before I did the AFM swap, but when I tested it on the dyno, I started with the car at stock fuel pressure. After some comparison runs, we played around with the fuel pressure, and found the best air/fuel mixture (and performance) was at about 4bar. The dyno showed a 2 RWHP gain just from the higher fuel pressure. It might be fine to swap just the AFM without changing the fuel system, but I would be careful so that you do not lean out your engine too much... Thanks, Dave ![]() |
