Difference b/w 97 & 98 M3/4

I know, this has been asked before. Are there any difference besides:

98 has rear headrests.
98 has side air bags.

Were there any late model MY98 M3/4s with the 3-spoke and illuminated shift knob?

97 had luxury package and 98 did not.

My 97 does not have rear headrests or fold down rear seats. I believe both were standard on 98's.

Some 97's have larger diameter driveshafts, which cause fitment problems with some upgraded suspensions. Not sure if 98's were fitted with these driveshafts.

There were some late 98 M3/4's that had the 3-spoke steering wheel but not me. I don't have rear-fold down seats either on my 98.

So the fold-down seats were options in both years? My 97 328 has the fold-downs. I knew the M3 had the 3-spoke and illum knob in later 98s, wasn't sure about the M3/4s, though.

Not sure if it was an option in 97, but I don't think so. Judging by your pic and signature, you have a coupe. All coupes have fold down seats.

BTW, the M3 sedan with non-folding seats is reputed to be the most rigid chassis of all E36 cars.

If i remember right, fold-down seats were an option for both the coupes and sedans.

That is kind of cool that I have the stiffest M3

The fold down seats were optional on 98 (I don't have them).

My shift knob is illuminated. However, I do not have the three spoke wheel.
