After a longg time of waiting....

Car is finally on the road again!! Got the AST's last night, and have been working on and off since then to get everything installed and figured out. Had some unexpected problems, but nothing I couldn't handle without some screaming and calls to friends on here

Rear spring adjusters on the GC's use a bolt that goes through the bottom of the upper control arm in the rear, and these had completely frozen inside the perches. Since there's nothing to stop the perches from spinning freely it became quite a challenge, and I had to destroy them in order to get them out. You'll see what I'm talking about in the pictures...

Other than that, the AST's went in smoothly and are QUALITY pieces. Quite the upgrade and I'm completely satisfied with the purchase. Unfortunately it's been pouring rain all day, but I went for a quick ride and they feel amazing - at 550F/650R it still feels stiff, but at the same time it isn't harsh and rides a LOT better than my GC's at 375/450 which is exactly what I was shooting for.

Sorry for the shitty pics, my buddy has my camera so I was using my dads crappy digital video camera.

New parts: AST 4100's dampers, Hyperco 550 in-lb front 5" springs, 650 in-lb rear 4" springs, Vorshlag rear ride height adjusters, new Vorshlag 60mm bearings/spring perches for their camber plates, Rogue RSM's, Sparco strut brace, and OEM strut mount reinforcements.

My make shift removal tool

Okay. That's it. I'm doing my car tomorrow. All of it. Just so I can order the ASTs. :shifty:

Lookin' good as usual, Bobby. But, yea, badgtho nailed it. Looks like they chose the wrong plating for those aluminum bits. Someone needs to brush up on their design skills, and stop making things that just look pretty.

Edit: how am I supposed to distinguish my otherwise dripping sarcasm from otherwise normal ramblings without the shifty? Guess I'll have to abandon any pretense of seriousness. Or, maybe you'll just have to use your imagination....

Drinking gatorade, looking at NIST-traceable torque wrenches, and trying to decide how much lockup I want in the new diff. So, mostly the usual. How you guys been?

Might as well hijack Bobby's thread further while I'm at it... How much lockup in the rear w/ a 6-speed and 3.62 gears would you recommend? Thinking 40%...

Nice fuel rail cover

Mine looks the same - M50 fuel rail cover arrived today though ftw.

Nice upgrade though. You'll have to give us a full review when you get a chance

Missed havin' ya around Mike. AST's should definitely be on your list of "redoing every piece of my car with the most baller products ever". They'll fit right in with all the rest!

Yeah, Ant had promised me his old cover and now he's using it on the E30 swap, so I need to locate another. One of those things that I've been meaning to get around to....

Yea, that's down on the phase 3 list right now. Drivetrain, body/lightness/interior, then suspension and brakes. Thinking AST, we'll see when I get there.
