| Clutch Tranny probs? Help a brutha out! '98 M3 slv cp 120,000 miles Hey all, I looked all over the posts and couldn't find anything related to my car problem. So here it is...please help me diagnose? Yesterday I blasted from 0-110 mph backhanding this whore-of-a-lexus IS300out of the toll booth (paid at the same time) into the expressway. Well, got to where I was going and stopped at a stop light. So I put it into first and when taking off, it felt like my clutch wasn't catching and the car was shaking and the clutch pedal was really shaking. I had to let the clutch pedal out a lot more than I normally do. And I was really slow starting. When I was in gear my car accelerated properly. It only felt this way when the clutch was pushed in and I was at that higher RPM takeoff point. I switched gears ok...& then from there it seemed fine. It also does the same thing when in reverse. If I start the car in second it doesn't do the shaking as much. I think a smelled a burning, but I'm not sure. Also, get a sort of noise when the clutch is pushed in at idle. No noise in neutral. Never changed the clutch to my knowledge and I bought the car 9years ago@ 50,000 miles. The fluid was full as I just replace brake system like 4 months ago. Is it my clutch? Trans? Thanks for your help...Kid Chris |

| Sounds like you popped one of the retaining tabs on the pressure plate, on the stock clutches theyre only 2 layer tabs, aftermarket pressure plates are usually 5 layer tabs - thats common on the M clutches especially if it is a STOCK BMW clutch - theyre worth about their weight in scrap metal. If you got a smell.... Clutch disc is probably slipping I recommend a clutch upgrade as your next mod ! |

![]() The little piece was actually wedged in the newly formed "bellhousing vent" ![]() ![]() It can be harmful to your health! Had not one, but two clutches go that route. also two orders of subsequent tranny damage. (first one was cracked a third of the bellhousing) yum
