| First Newbie Post. Hello everyone, I have some newbie questions for you all - hopefully someone will pardon my ignorance and answer it! ![]() I am looking to buy a E36 M3, however, the local dealership (not BMW) claims that the S50 and S52 motor is not belt driven. I suspect that they are referring to a timing chain instead? Is this true? What milage should the timing belt/chain be replaced? They also claimed that the water pump assembly does not have to be replaced, and only the propeller requires replacement - is this also true? And finally, I've seen posts from searching that on avg the S50-S52 motor makes about 195-210rwhp... I know these cars weren't designed for drag racing, but what do they trap in stock form in the 1/4? Thank you all!!

| I remember reading somewheres that the chain should be replaced at the 200k mile marker, as they will stretch over time, and the tensioner should be even sooner(150k). Do em both at the same time, as its kindof a PITA
