euro license plates

are those euro license plates legal here in southern california? i'm thinking of getting one, but not if they're illegal

If California requires front and rear license plates, then you wouldn't have anywhere to put a european plate; therefore, the only way to use a european plate is to replace your Cali plate with the european plate, which is definitely illegal.

However, if Cali only requires the use of a rear license plate, then you should be okay putting a euro plate on the front. You will also need a new trim piece for the front bumper because the european trim is different than the US trim.

California is unfortunately a front license plate state. However, I haven't had a front plate on any of my cars for the past 12 years and have never been cited for it. That doesn't make it legal, but apparently nobody cares to enforce this particular law. BTW, the penalty for no front license plate in cali is... a trip to the DMV with the license plate installed.

you can always put the euro plate right above the cali plate. may look a little funny. on my moms '72 2002 it looks ok, but it has crome bumpers.

stay off the highways, chp is tough about that, been pulled over twice for it.

Not legal. I have had several customers get pulled over for this as well as there German plates confinscated.

They are legal in the front, byut cops love to pull you over for shennanigins.

100% false. It is the law in the entire state of CA to run a front and rear plate. So that being said a euro plate is not legal. Not even if you matched your CA plate with your customized euro plate. I got hemmed up about 2 months ago.

But I knew without a doubt I was breaking the law, and I didn't even try to make an excuse. I installed the CA plate to get the Police to sign off on the ticket and then ran it like that for a couple weeks and took it off again.

I know I am breaking the law and I am willing to accept the consequences.
