E46 Key fob conversion? As my first post, I'm going to kick it off with a hi!
I just bought a Cosmos e36 ///M3 Coupe from a fellow enthusiast in Illinois. Owning one of these has been a dream of min for over 5 years now, and I finally have one. I must say it's a good feeling to finally be sitting behind the wheel of the car that you used to dream about and wish you had. I'm a previous e30, and Subaru Impreza owner. If there's any advice I can give you at all, it would be the recommendation that if you are to used to the BMW quality and performance, do not EVER buy an Impreza. I sold my e30 (mistake) for a 2006 impreza; ended up EXTREMELY disappointed, re-sold the Impreza and bought another BMW. Excuse me, I bought a freaking ///M3! So hello.........
My first question is simply this.....
The E46 ///M3's have a "diamond" key in which the lock, unlock, and key itself is one piece. I currently have a key, and a separate remote (2pcs.) and I would really like to just buy an e46 key fob blank (1pc) and reprogram it for my car. I can probably find the key blank with the notch like mine on eBay, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything before I go through with it. Is it possible? What would it cost? Is it something I can do without a dealer? |
