318is M3 conversion. Is buying a used 318is with high mileage and doing a M3 motor swap a good or bad idea? does anybody know how much this would cost? would it be cheaper than an M3? or is this a really dumb idea?

Not a dumb idea Alot of people will discourage you from doing it. You can find a reasonably priced 1995 m3 inn alot of places. Cons: 1. Need to buy after market skirts, front spoiler, rear spoiler, mirrors, seats, rims Pros 1. 318 insurance. This is ideal in a state that doesn't have inspections. You will need: 1. M3 engine preferably 1995...because 1996 cars and up had OBD II, unless your 318 is newer and has OBD II 3,000-5,000 2. m3 catalytic converter, M3 muffler 300-450 for cat 150 muffler 3. M3 brakes calipers, spindles, rotors both front and back. 400-800 4. M3 suspension: Includes struts, springs, sways(if you want) 400-500 5. Optional(m3 transmission, driveshaft, differential) You can use your stock 318 tranny and other parts but they will wear out faster. 800-1500. Especially if you're MR. heavy leadfoot. 6. A mechanic who can do it for 2,000-3,000.

Why don't you just get Why don't you just get a 325i and put a super charger on it???? and up grade the suspension and brakes. Your ride can compete with the M without the insurance costs. Its probably even better getting a used 325 than a 318...if you want to convert to an M3. Eman ![]()
