HID conversion

I got a kit, just wondering if anyone else has done it. Has anyone been pulled over for them, as far as the beam not being correct? I got the 9000k's. I was thinking about getting another set for the fog lamps, anyone do that?

some states can get you.....get the e-code lenses and tell em to shove it up their ass....and dont aim em too high, gives an excuse to get pulled over & inspected...but otherwise many many e36 have the retrofit xenon action...sans mine

also 9000k might be too purple and attract attention, as well as reduce the actual useable light, its just too far in the spectrum. Go for the 6000 range& you still get a little blue tint.

Well your first mistake was getting 9000K. bulbs. Very much towards the blue end of the visible light spectrum. Humans don't see blue that well at all, especially at night. Do your self a big favor and get some 5000K or even better some 4300K bulbs.

As far as fog lights... They are FOG lights, not driving lights. They have a wide short beam. (it's the lens design, not the bulb) They are mounted very low to reduce glare in FOG! They are useful for lighting the edge of the road about 20 feet in front of the car. They are totally useless if there isn't fog.

Putting HID's in is a waste of time and really annoys other drivers and the police.

hmm... well already recieved the 9000k's so too late... what are the e-code lenses?

E code, or European code lights.. Bosch, ZKW... They have glass lenses, whereas the D.O.T. USA headlights are plastic. The have a better beam pattern, a very sharp cutoff, and a light kickup on the right side.

hmm... i think i'll just aim them down a lil bit, atleast the m3 has a seperate high beam bulb so i didnt loose that doing the hid. Maybe add some eyebrows also.

Here is a pic of mine with ZKW ellipsoids and 5000k HID kit installed. Its got a slight bluish tint. Like VFR says, its got a nice beam pattern with a sharp cut off.

I'd say def go for the HID's in the foglights too. Get the 4300K for them, have the crisp white/ blue in the headlights, with the bright bright yellow fogs. A good example if you wanna see what it will look like is the newer Lexus GS's, and some of the Infinity SUV's. If I'm not mistaken they have HID's in the fogs too.
