| Do it at home, or have the chain tensioner fail and be stuck in leavenworth? So if the chain tensioner solves the problem, what do I win....jk I remember when I changed mine when I did my motor swap, I couldnt believe how much that little part costed at the time

i would be extremely surprised if it does not cure the problem. measure the old chain against the new... just to see what type of distortion you had. also.. if you are doing this install yourself.. pre-oil the set before you fire the car up.

| Put the new updated primary chain tensioner in and it did help a LITTLE. The noise is still there. I did not replace the chain. That will be my next project. This is really starting to piss me off. As for the pinging, that is my top concern right now. The car does have a Jim C chip in it and I am thinking of returning to the stock chip to see if that cures the problem. Could it be a bad cam sensor? I did 15 gallons in today with premium from a shell here that I never use and I also first put in a bottle of octane boost from lucas oil's. It did seem to help. I am thinking of making my own octane brew muhahaha

| See if you can find someone to do an injector cleaning before you use too many cleaners. I used some valvoline shit before a race at mosport a few years ago and the car ran terrible. I have an injector cleaning kit and I'm technically a body man, you should be able to find one from most mechanics. |

| i would be somewhat concerned if i were you... it sounds liek the chain is loose.. it could be the chain, the tensioner, or maybe even a pulley? that oil you are running is not what's recommended for this car.. and is a bit thick. i would change out to mobil 1 15w50 synthetic and overfill by 1/2 quart and see if it quiets down.

| Dr. VANOS? So, any results from Dr. VANOS? I'm couldn't count the times I had seen this issue come thru the dealer where I worked. Like it's been stated, as far as all the old timers were concerned, VANOS noise just "is". Nothing we should be concerned about. I was clueless to an aftermarket replacement. after reading thru the Dr. VANOS website, I'm jones'd to get a setup now. My 325i is just screaming at me to fix it's chain noise & lack of power down low in the RPM's. |
