Sorry to hear that I was right, but glad that he figured it out.

We ended up replacing the cams, all valves, springs, water pump, switched to a metal t-stat housing, replaced all hoses and lines, and cleaned the t-body. Total was $4,000... mostly preventative maintenance.

what happened to yours?

I do have a spare head that has already been through a machine shop.

I was going to say, that cost you an arm. Hey BadGTho, My friend is a mechanic and he charges me next to nothing. He is pretty good, do you think he will be able to perform this type of job on my car that goob_os101 had done.

How much do you want for that spare head? Is it stock M3? And do I really need to change my head?

it is from a 98 328 i, which will work in all 3 series 96-99. All you need to do is put your cam in (or sunbelt race cams). I would suggest checking your cams out 1st. That was the problem with mine. I had a bad exhaust cam. I can do $600 for the head. I can give you the contact info of the shop that did the work.

What makes a cam go bad, do the lobes wear out?
And will that head give me more hp?

Ok, listen I have been managing a small BMW repair shop for the last 10 years. The only way you bend exhaust valves is the MONEY SHIFT!! Got fourth gear beating against the rev limiter go for 5th, but get 3rd. I have clients that track e36 s52 year after year. Any motor will wear out eventually, but your s52 should be good for longer than 99k. MY 98 did not want to run to save it life this morning & ran on 5 the hole way to work... Replace the ignition coil($78.00) & spark plug connector($13.00). Fixed! If I did not have a front strut brace could have fixed it in under 10 min! Never seen an injector go bad yet on one of these engines, their is a first for every thing. Run a good heavy syn oil 20w50 red lion or 15w50 mobil one, change it every 3k or after each DE. DON'T OVERHEAT the engine & you will be just fine. Not saying you mechanics wrong, but my question would be. How do I bend just one exhaust valve??? Connection rod break??? Let me know & good luck!

Just reread you post & I am afraid that you did the money shift. Did the tires chirp & the car jerk when you down shifted? Was the motor making a TACKING noise, not a ticking noise? The cylinder head should be ok. But you gotta pull it off & fix it. It's about 12hr labor, + parts & machine shop. Your not the first, nor the last. Drive any car long enough & hard enough & it will happen. It's just a question of weather or not the flywheel bolts give or the motor over revs.

I really want that cam. But is it going to work in my M3? And will the machine shop guarantee the head?

I bought the head originally from the Euro Depot and it came with a warranty. If there was anything wrong with it I would have sent it back. I can give you the shops contact info...

I do another person interested so please let me know asap

A. you have bent valves
B. your pistons detonated
C. your rings broke and are allowing blow by.
A cyl pressure reading that is supposed to be 195-210psi reading 0, means the cylinder is not sealing, and the above is the possible problems. Good luck, start by removing the head. This will allow you to determine if the head is bad, the cylinder is failed or both.
