| chip differences btw 08/94 and 01/95 m3's? I recently bought a used dinan powerdyne sc kit for a reasonable price and have yet another question. What are the differences in the ECU's between the post 1/95 build date m3 and the pre 1/95 build date m3. I am buying the kit from someone with a post 1/95 '95 m3 while I have an 8/94 '95 M3. I assume I will have to get a new chip from Dinan right? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

| You need to find out the ECU number that chip is designed for and compare it to your ECU number. The numbers on all E36 ECU's are the same except for the last 3 numbers (at least for M3's I think). For example, I have an AA chip. AA makes a chip for the 95 M3 but different chips for different ECU numbers. I would suspect that Dinan does the same. AA actually put the ECU number on the chip in my case to prevent any confusion.

| The 1/95-12/95 M3 had an ECU with '413' as the suffix. The 4/94-12/94 M3 used the '506' ECU. The difference is the the later (95) unit had EWSII encoding/functionality in the chip/ECU. Performance wise, the two units are identical. Bottom line though is that the 1/95-newer chip (413) *will not* work in the 94 ECU (506) due to the EWS differences. Contact Dinan to get the proper chip.
