Oil Filters

Are the aftermarket Mahle oil filters better than the Mann or Bosch? The construction of them looks sturdier, but was wondering which one would perform better or filter more crap.

I heard the K&N Gold Oil filters in combo with the magnetic Oil Drain Plug is an unbeatable combo. Knowing K&Ns air filter experience, I don't have any reason to believe that their oil filters should be of lesser quality.

Mike,

All the guru's and neurotic BMW guys I know only go for the Mahle filters. So, so do I.

I used the BMW one. I am sure it will work for the next 3000 miles anyway. I used Moil 1 for the first time since my Amsoil has not yet arrived.

The engine revs more freely than the 20W-50 Castrol I used. It may have freed up some horsepower, but who knows. I am glad. I am switching all my fluids to Synthetic as we speak.

So what are you using now? Are you still useing 20w-50? And what does that mean I never got the meaning of that. I'll be doing an oil change soon enough so what do you recommend?

I switched to Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30.

I agree. i am glad I switched. I will use Amsoil next time. i am anxious to see if there is a problem with this oil in the hot Texas summers.
