| E36 Coupe Window WOES.. PLZ HELP!! I got a '95 M3 and the windows are frameless pieces. They have auto up and down and everything works PERFECT with the exception of the driver's window on the way UP. The windows all auto down with no problem with one touch and the passenger goes up with one touch just fine. When it comes to the driver window, if you hold the button down (up position) all the way until the window rises it will go up fine, however if you just push it once it goes up about quarter-way and just stops, and you push it again and does the same thing So now if I hold the window and kind of guide it up, slightly pulling on it to bring it up, IT STILL STOPS IN THE SAME PLACE all the time.... HELP ME OUT HERE GUYS ![]()

| same problem with mine as well. Tried to fix it, i changed a relay and it fixed the problem for about a week, then the drivers window started up a again. I originally had that problem with both windows, now just the driver so i tend to think that relay is the problem. |

| Both my windows are messed up, it's common on the e36. Mine only go up/down in 2 inch increments, so you have to keep pushing the button to get them to move. The reason for this problem is that the window motor has a sensor composed of a donut magnet on the motor shaft. This magnet spins around in a set of coils which tell the car where the window is. Unfortunately the glue that holds this magnet to the shaft breaks down, and the magnet starts to slide around, meaning that the car can't tell when the window is up or down anymore. I've seen people try to fix this by opening up the window motor and gluing the donut magnet back in its place. I tried this, with no success, and by the time it was over I was glad just to get the window motor assembly back together. I wouldn't recommend trying to fix it like that, although new motor assemblies cost around $200 I've learned to live with it for the time being, I may get it fixed one day, but for now that's money better spent on performace mods.Last edited by Gofast; 11-18-2002 at 07:01 AM.. |

| SHEIT! This sounds like a nightmare to fix. I haven't had the window looked at by a professional yet and I simply refuse to open the door panel up to get a good look. I mean, don't get me wrong I like changing my oil and getting dirty with my car, but ELECTRICAL is something I don't mess with. I guess this one is going to cost me huh? IF ANYONE ELSE HAS SOME INPUT PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ENLIGHTEN US! ![]()
