Lightbulb 325ti Review with M kit, wheels and SMG II

Sounds like the 325ti could be a bit of a fun, it seems pretty good value too.

Don't think any other car has SMGII except the E46 M3. I heard SMG was option on some E46s overseas but it was only a simple version and not like the one in the E46 M3.

Re: Re: 325ti Review with M kit, wheels and SMG II

Dont Ask Me Why ... ... But even with all that cool stuff... I still find the new "Ti" extremely ugly... ... However, Rich stated they drive like a dream, so thats definetely the main thing ... The styling still makes it seem like the bonnet isnt shut !!

Correct ... To my knowledge anyways, the E46 M3 is the only car with the SMGII System ... The thing your talking about is called SSG (Sequential Sports Gearbox), however, I have no idea how it works... just that its definetely a watered down version... ...

Quote:
Underlining the sporting character of the 3 Series is the introduction of a Sequential Sports Gearbox (SSG) option for the 325i and 330i Saloon and Coupé models. This clutchless manual five speed gearbox is operated by two paddles behind the steering wheel or via the gear lever. It is expected to be available to UK customers from December 2001 and its price will be announced nearer the time. At present we have no information on the availability of SSG in other markets, nor any other technical specifications, other than it is a close relative of the SMG II gearbox now available on the M3.

I agree with KR-3181. No matter how good a review it gets, it still has the TI styling which in my opinion, is pretty ugly.

hahaha..... everyone has different taste over one thing!!! I personally don't really like the front end, but to the handling, braking power and the performace (especially from a 2.5L engine), this car can really rock!! I've only driven a 316ti, actuall the engine is VERY smooth... it doesn't feel like a 4 cylinder car, if you are not a power crazy guy (who isn't on the board??), you will love this car... it feels much smoother than my m3 though! love that feeling too! Can't imagine how much better can a 325ti be!!! If I have a chance, I will definitely test drive one!

Cheers,

rich

Hello Fammer:

I don't know if I can get to drive a e30 325is though... but as I can tell you.... we (eva's brother and me) sort of REALLY test drove that 316ti hard at the corner and also tried out its acceleration too!!! Remember last Friday/ Saturday night, it was puring and the floor was VERY wet (with Pirelli P7000 tyres, they all became a bit sticky after we came back from the "road testing")... we drove the car out, redlined it and wheel spun it (either with or without ASC on)! we even ABSed the car too to explore its stopping power.... should I call we "trash" the car??? this term might be more appropriate!! This car can really can take all of these things! That's why I said this car is quite nice on handling!!!

The only downside of this car will be the power of course (and might be the front end look too), but by having a very smooth engine idling characteristic sort of compromise this engine downside in my point of view! I wouldn't want to race a V8 car or any m power car with this baby though! I will choose a really nice day, drive smoothly in this car and really enjoy its handling and quite driving pleasure!

Just my thought on this car!!! and a 2.5L will just be an icing on the cake!!! You got to love it!!!

cheers,

rich

Now i don't know how an E30 325is would handle, but wouldn't logic dictate that the newer model would handle better? Even more so considering BMW's track record? People thought the E36 M3 couldn't get better but they did it....

Anyways....the stock look doesn't do it for me...HOWEVER....whack on an ACS kit on and whoa I reckon it's friggin horn!

hmmmm

I have to say this the E30 was a purpose built race car
its handling and weight distribution will reflect this....
BMW kinda moved away from performance cars after the E30 m3
and have only recently had a go at producing another true race car the E46 M3....

i`ve only added bigger sways and the car sticks like glue!!!
i need more power under the bonet!!

i guess i`m bias!!

E30 325is ROCK!!!
