E30 M vs. E36 M?

What are the chances, if any, of an e30 m3 beating an e36 m3? Stock the e36 is like 1.6 seconds faster in 0-60, but a chip, intake, and exhaust certainly does help an e30 And no cheating for you guys with 3.0 and 3.2 in their e30's. I am talking about the s14. Well, has it happened??

Sure it's happened.

More commonly it happens in something other than a straight line.

True, but what mods would have to be done, to take it in a line. It probably won't happen though, but wouldn't it catch up in the high end, a bit?? I am sure it wouldn't get blown away though. What is the most hp u can get out of an e30, NA, without losing driveability and mpg? (Hint hint, Alex)

Heres what happened last sunday at the SB brunch...

GM3 in his '99 M3 was behind me and DakarM3 in his 95 M3 with chip and intake.

3rd gear drag race to redline from 60mph, I pulled him by half a car.

GM3's jaw dropped as 2 puff's of black smoke came out and a roar of ///M power screamed away into the distance.

I was shicked, and so was GM3 and really DakarM3...

Was a good race... will have to do it again sometime!

Off line the E36 is faster, even with the same HP. Why?, becasue the E36 has over half a lr more engine, and a LOT more torque, the rear end is also better for launching, the E30 hops around a lot.

Now I can take a E36 to 60 if it's kinda stock. I beat my friends M-roadster all over the place. Now 80-100 the E30 is a LOT faster.

Now, I have a moded 2.5 EVO engine. it's around 265hp. I even kept up with a E39 M5 untill 100mph.

Straight line speeds is NOT everything. I would rather beat them at breaking and turns that straight line. All that straight line speed is $$. With the other 2 it takes some skill also.

Depends on what one your talking about American or Euro spec?
You going to have alot more trouble trying to keep up with a Euro Evo that u r an American 240 bhp one.
An E30 M3 is not a drag car it's a track car and in it's proper enviroment( the track) it will show the way to much more powerful cars!

But with enough money it could be done as the 2.5L race cars were about 365 bhp, but not exactly driveable for road condition.

Now the Lotech E30 M3, I think would beat a standard US E36 marketing 3....er I mean Motorsport 3 series

But I agree with M3 Pilot....you guys missed out when it came to the M3 car

Check out the Evo II and Ceccotto M3 on my website.

These are US numbers
88-91 2.3 was 192hp
EVO II was 215hp 2.3l intake cam/ex cam gear higher compression.
EVOIII 2.5l 238hp bigger TB, valves, big cams, header and more...

There was a few other versions but I don't know the data off the top of my head.

I got all the EVOIII stuff and Schrick cams, higher compression, etc...
