| 325 Gas Mileage What is your average gas mileage on your 325i 5spd's? What about autos? I am getting only 17.8 mpg right now. Is this normal? I do need to get the car inspected and the Inspection II (Its at 76k), so will that help the mileage out at all? Thanks.

| 23-24 MPG average. A little over 320 miles per tank before reserve light comes on. Thats with a AA chip, intake and exhaust.

| I took it to the highway today and cruising in 5th I was getting around 29-30mpg. My low city numbers are probably due to my shift points, which are not perfect yet because I just learned how to drive stick. My emissions were fine when I got the inspection done today, so I dont think the engine is running bad enough to effect gas mileage. When do you guys shift when just cruising in town? How about when the car is cold? In traffic or on a road with lights I think I shift around 3k-3.5k, and when the car is cold in the morning I try not to go over 2.5k. Do these numbers sound good? Also, when cruising at 50-55mph will I get better mileage in 4th gear at 3100 or so rpm or 5th at about 2600? Is the MPG gauge on the cluster accurate at all?

| When its cold you can hear and feel how far the engine wants to go. I normally shift at the same 3-3.5k range on daily driving. You'll know when to shift when it's cold though =D As for the 50-55 mph in 4th or 5th, ideally 5th would be better but not if you want any power out of it. So stepping on the gas in 5th would be worse on gas, but don't sweat over it, you'll still get the same gas mileage. Just be happy your O2 sensor isn't dead I'm gonna have to get to work this weekend! bye bye 19 MPG!! |

| I am getting 21 and there is no city where I live. Could the ~9MPG difference between my mileage and what you guys are quoting be due to me not having vanos('92), or should I be looking for problems? |
