| Low RPM Engine miss (skip) Need ideas on where to troubleshoot a problem on my 96 e36 sedan with 216000 miles and 5 speed. After riding the new fuel filter around town for two months, I finally changed it Saturday. For kicks I drained the old filter out of the in line into a bucket. What a pile of black, fine granules were all in the gas! So I'm thinking good job and how it surely was needed and how that low RPM engine skip will go away. I test drove it and it seemed better. The miss seems to be isolated below 1500 rpm and feels like a single cylinder misfire, but is very very annoying and noticable. The car almost bucks, and will do two or three of these if the rpm stays below 1500. Once above 1500 rpm, she runs fine. So over the last couple of days watching how she does, it is now back to this miss just as bad as before the filter change.
Now I know the answer may be "well don't drive at under 1500 rpm". I am concerned the skip may eventually occur at higher rpm and can't afford to sit around while my ride gets worse to the point of not running. I am also doing an experiment with 93 octane to see if mileage is better enough to justify the added 24 cents per gallon, so I am driving it conservatively as I did to establish a baseline mileage on 87 octane fuel.
So, if anyone has some past experience before i start changing plugs, wires, fuel pump, injectors cleaning, etc.. , let me hear from you.
