| Only connect and disconnect the MAF with the key in the OFF position. Computers don't like having things unplugged while the wires are live. If the car bogs immediately when you mash the gas pedal: 1) Put your hand by the opening of the exhaust pipe. You should be able to feel the individual bursts of exhaust. If you can't, you may have an obstruction in your exhaust. 2) Try some octane booster, and see if it matters. If it makes a difference, then the problem is that your knock sensor is detecting a knock and retarding your timing. If higher octane helps, you either need a new knock sensor or a better gasoline supplier. If it bogs only after a second or so, try a new fuel filter. Another suspect would be the fuel pressure regulator. If memory serves. I think that the regulator is vacuum actuated and located at the rear end of the fuel rail?? If you can access the vacuum hose to the regulator, pull it off and see if gasoline is leaking up that vacuum line, which would indicate a failed diaphragm in the regulator. A failing catalyst or an over-rich idle or bad fuel could relate to the bad odor in reverse. Does it smell like rotten eggs? (hydrogen sulfide). Either that or you need to take your mother-in-law out of the trunk ;-) |

| Maybe years of bad fuel have produced an overly clogged catalytic converter? 95'/14 years is a long lifespan for a cat to go, methinks that is your culprit......how many miles on the ticker?

| with the smell in reverse, i would suggest your catalytic converter. over so long of heating up and cooling off, the inside starts to wear out and break off. after a while it starts to clog up the outlet pipe.

| ok guys so im gathering all the help that you guys have given me and making one conclusion and that that its the catalytic converter or something in my exaust because ive unplugged the maf and it still acts the same it makes me so mad to because sometimes it runs reall clean and dosnt bogg down and then other times it does but i have tryed higher octane 92 and it did nothing but drained my pocket lol but i always run 89 so if i was to get a new exaust like a catback would this replace the catalytic converter or not ???????? |

| The new catalyst is a good bet only if the exhaust flow out the tailpipe feels like there is an obstruction. Also, the occasional nature of your problem is not consistent with a plugged cat. |
