Bought retrofit HID kit...

Hey all,

I'm a new member to this forum, and I wish I had joined a little earlier.

Over the past 8 months I have been purchasing "upgrades" for my 1996 328i cabrio. I have installed an M rear spoiler, manual Vader seats, and a shadow blacked out grill. I also purchased two sets of retrofit HIDs from bimmian.com.

I put one in my fogs, and the other was for my low beams. At the time I didn't know any better about upgrading the lighting housing to a projector light. So now i've spent a few hundred dollars on equipment which, from this forum, sounds like will give me problems.

Personally I haven't had any problems with them. yes, they are bright, but they give me good visibility and a pretty defined beam line against walls (i have since read this is a good test for lighting quality- there doesnt seem to be too much of light scattering). Basically I want to know what my options are. The guy from bimmian told me that the kit would be legal as long as i went with the pure white 6000k. Am I able to purchase a projector light housing and use this same retrofit kit in it? (for the low beams i bought the 9005/9006 type bulbs - can't remember which specifically right now).

I haven't had any heat from police, and since installing them a few months ago, i have only had one driver "flick" their lights at me- I was more than happy to flick my high beams back.

Just wondering what people think I should do here.

Also- I recently purchased eyebrows for my car as well- wondering on the legality of these too.

I am in Canada if that makes a difference.

Hey A-
I did the same thing w/ the HID retro kit - then purchased the euro projector headlights and had to get rid of the 9005 retro kit i had because the headlights take H1's - the projectors are awesome but CHECK before buying or you'll be buying new hid's like me!

So when i order projector housings, will I still be able to use the ballast I have? or will i need a new ballast for the H1 bulbs? would be a money saver if I can use the same ballast.

Any idea about the eyebrows?

Not all of the housings use H1 - jst check before you purchase - you may not have to buy new bulbs or ballast> - im down in the states so im not sure about the eyebrows. Sorry - If you do need to buy new lamps- it's sometimes cheaper to get a kit then piece it together-
