| The prompting for a code is the antitheft function of the radio. If it is disconnected from the battery, it requires a 4-digit code to be punched in before it will work again.
I believe that there are two codes that will work - a master code that the mechanics use that works on all radios, and an individual code that is keyed to the serial number on the radio. You need that individual code. It originally came with the car on a small card in with the owners manual.
If you still own the car that the radio came out of, take the radio and the car registration to a BMW dealer and show them that you own the car with the VIN that corresponds to that radio's serial number. They can look up the radio's serial number and give you the four digit code in a few seconds. If they want to charge you for this service, you should patronize another dealer.
If you no longer own the car that the radio came out of, they will assume that the radio is stolen and they will not give you the code. |
