Unhappy "Blown" 325

Well, I did a compression test this morning, and here are the results:

195
190
200
190
195
and finally 50

yup, seems like cylinder 6 has got a leak somewhere. So now the plot thickens.

I checked the spark plugs, and there is NO sign of detonation in that cylinder. Coolant level is also fine. Guess we're gonna have to do some investigating.

Dude you have big troubles there! Do a "leak down" test. It will tell you where the leak is, in the head or piston.

Another trick is do the compression test again but put about 1oz of oil in each cylinder, all the numbers should go up, if it goes up a LOT on #6 you have a piston problem.

thanks evo, leak down test is next. Unfortunately, I dont know how to do it, so it needs to get towed to a mechanic. Thinking of buying a 3.2 now maybe depending on how much repairs will be

thinking about it really hard right now. Only thing is that i could maybe afford the engine, but I cant afford the labor too. So ideally if I can find someone that knows what they're doing locally that would be willing to help on weekends, that would be great.

Find out what is wrong with your motor first! It might not be as bad as you think. You can rebuild your motor into a 3.2. It might be less $$ then putting a 3.2 in there.

well, I picked it up from my mechanic who had it for 2 days. It was running perfectly before that. When I picked it up, it idled rough. I asked him about it, and he said "its probably a clogged idle control valve" So I get home, and I notice oil underneath the supercharger. I looked and there's oil all over the intake of the supercharger.

So at first I thought the blower had blown a seal. So Vortech wanted me to send it in. Then I was advised to do a compression test, and thats when I found out the bad news.

Im taking my car to some else than my mechanic, cause obviously if he investigatges the problem, he'll blame it on "mechanical failure" not "driver error". By talking to him, he sounds like he's trying to weasel out of the liability. All I know is that my car was fine when I dropped it off, and f-ed when I picked it up. All the roads seem to point in one direction. So Im gonna find another shop that will be impartial

Why was the car in the shop? You might have a blown head gasket. With the oil over the engine that is what it sounds like. With forced induction when a gaskets goes it will spew things out. You might also have some oil in the coolant. Hopefully that is was it is. They are really easy to replace on a M50
