| Euro 318i Power Output? can anyone tell me what whp my 318i is making roughly? its got a custom exhaust system (cat back i believe), a cold air fed filter and a quicker responding fuel pressure regulator thats probably not set up right. i thought i remembered hearing the 318i E30 (again euro spec) made 115whp? if so i take it my E36 is the same?

| If I can recall, it makes 102hp (M43), but its known that the exhuast does nothing to add to the power, the CAI, if anything it makes the car loose power. Given that it's older now I would say that it is currently pushing out 97-104hp. That is an estimate, there are alot of variables that come into play that can affect the final figure such as the mileage, and how well it's been looked after. EDIT: Engine specs: M43 Straight 4 SOHC 8V. 1993-1998. 83kg 183lbs Used in post-93 E36 316i/318i, E34/39 518i. 1.6 (102bhp), 1.8 (115bhp) |

| umm mines a 92 tho? exhaust or intake wouldnt do much on their own but mines got a system, cai and fuel pressure regulator. ill be changing the cai setup from what it is now to the one i have my my ford sierra asim selling that and theres no way im selling it with the carbon fibre sealed filter. instead im gonna nick the little max power filter out of the E36 and just swap them over. once i get a chance to do a bit of tweaking to the E36 ill sort a good air feed to the filter, probably a big ram air type scoop thing behind the grill in the bumper and straight to the CF shielded filter. done this on 2 previous cars with this same filter and it makes an improvement every time.

| So on a 97 318ti, would a CAI and exhaust decrease performance?

| ok cool so this is the same engine that was in my E30 318i because it was an 88 or 89. i know the E36 is a heavier car and from what i remember of driving the 318i with only a bolt on rear silencer modification wise this car feels just as quick if not slightly quicker but my mind could be playing tricks on me because the E30 was back in 2002 i believe. the E36 does have a couple modifications tho which could explain why i feel like its a little quicker than my old E30. its got a cat-back, dunno if its got a de-cat. also has a short but sweet cai and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator thats supposed to also respond "1.7 times quicker than standard." i also ran some injector cleaner through it. feels perfectly healthy for 121k if not slightly tappety around 3-4k under load but thats nothing big. not sure if you know what i mean by tappets, think what you guys would call it is lifters? speaking of does the M40 use hydraulic or solid lifters?
