Flywheel shaving

I'm going to be pulling the gearbox out of my 91' 318i to replace a noisy throw-out bearing in the next couple of weeks.
While I’m going to all the trouble I'm going to replace the clutch to save me going back in there for quite awhile longer.
This got me thinking, Why not put a stronger clutch in and shave a bit of weight from the flywheel so my little 1.8L get's a little cred off the line.

Has anybody tinkered with their flywheel? How many pounds can you take off them before making it useless to drive with more than 1 passenger? Any advice, experience or insight would be appreciated,

Dual mass flywheel, not really able to do that. I would get a lightweight flywheel and clutch Check UUC, Downing Atlanta, AA...

i am not 100% sure that the 318 has a dual mass flywheel, if it does though, you cannot resurface that flywheel and to make it lighter you just have to buy a new one, if it does not then i would go to the dealer and ask who they use to do their machine work and then take it there rather than napa or something.

yup i also read about swapping out many of the parts from a 325i and doind thast and losing about 10lbs, but kinda expensive juss get a LWT flywheel for liek $400

You can have a dual mass flywheel resurfaced. The dealer told me you couldn't but I had it done elsewhere.
