| RPM Hanging Does anyone have a solution for rpm hanging, i.e. rpm slow to drop, when making an up-shift on a 1993 E36 325is? The higher the rpm when shifting to a higher gear, e.g. 3rd to 4th, the longer it takes for the rpm to drop. The time seems excessively long. As much as one to two seconds when shifting at 5000+ rpm. At lower rpm, e.g. 3000 rpm, the lag in the rpm drop is less and does not create a significant wait to match speed and rpm during shifting. The BMW dealer says that the lag is "normal". But this lag seems excessive. Last edited by jere : 12-03-2005 at 06:24 AM. |

Now I have it again. it's been like 1 year 1/2 since the last clean up of my T.B. I'm going to clean it w/ carb cleaner and put some oil so the buterrfly can move freely, plus clean and grease my gas pedal cable, if the problem persist i will look for vacum leakes by spraying some carb cleaner around vacums lines and intake manifold w/the car runing. you can try this as well. I'll let you know what does the trick this time ![]() |

I own a green 318 that looks like a M3 with a sticker on the back bumper that says " if you can read this.. flip me back over" is up side down. plus my car is loud I got a free flow exhaust. here are some pics of my daily driver the green car and my race car "red" on a mountain run ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| I have same problem with my car but mine is worse! Yesterday as i was having fun with my car i noticed that when i got to hire reves like 5500rpm and above the rpm hangs and dosen't drop at all(but it does drop after 2 sec in lower rpms) so when i switch to second the dam rpm is still at 5000 or above when i was at 6000 in first! The car did not pull at all in second and felt like it was still in first!! And when i switched into 3rd i had to let off gass to let them drop. When they droped I hit the gass and when i was at 5000rpm and switched to 4th they where not droping fast enough took like 2 to 3 sec so i had to let off the gass to let them drop again!! If i was racing, a dam stock civic could of taken me! I cleaned out my idle control valve and checked my flywheel to see if it was striped and it wasn't, so i dunno what to do now. Also the pullys are fine aswell. When the car got serviced before i bought it the technician said it was all good no problems! They checked the car bumper to bumper! |

yesterday I think I have my problem fixed. what I did was I clean the buterfly and the SPRINGS on by the buterfly they were dirty then I disconected the gas pedal cable (#13) and put some WD-40 down the line and I moved it in and out and it kind of lose up a little bit, then I realize that the gas pedal spring was broken so I fixed that too. that help A LOT the pedal now is kind of hard and the RPMS don't hang no more in this pic you can see the springs and you have to clean the inside too w/ some gas and a rag or carb cleaner. ![]() on this one you can see the spring (#9) that usualy breaks your going to have to straight the wire and made up the part that broke. ![]() Last edited by RJ'sE36ITS : 01-11-2006 at 08:15 PM. |

| I have done all the cleaning in the first picture, but for the spring in the gass pedal i have no clue, never been there before. Is that whole section with the spring under the dash above the gas control arm? And which way can i get the easies access to it?

OK the easy way is to removed the plastic panel (#4) under the steering wheel. it has a couple of screws 14,24,5 and one under the headlights switch. ![]() and the w/a flash light you would see clear everything your are going to have to removed to clips in order to take the spring out (#11) and (#3) |
